Lessons

All of our teachers are professional instructors, many of whom have taught for years. Our teachers are well established with good reputations and we have teachers available for guitar, bass, drums/percussion, piano, brass, woodwinds and more. We are very careful as to who we select to teach at our stores, and we want you to know that we carefully examine the qualifications of all our teachers.

Learn To RAWK!How our lesson program works:

Although our teachers are not employed by Haggertys Musicworks, we allow them access to our studios where they can freely give private lessons. Because they are separate entities our stores do not keep track of payment or scheduling information for our teachers.

To get set up for lessons we'll do everything we can to match you up with the right teacher, but please be aware that most of our teachers are extremely busy and you may have to be placed on a waiting list.

To get started, browse our list of teachers by making a selection to your left. You can select the instrument and store location that you are interested in, and the appropriate teachers will display on this page.

If you have any questions, or need help finding a teacher, just feel free to Contact Us and we'll get you on our teachers waiting list.

A teacher will get back in touch with you when they have an opening in their schedule.

Guitar, Mandolin & Ukelele

Greetings…

I have been playing the guitar since 1978! I also began my musical career around that same time… going full time in 1994.

I have years of experience to share and over the last few years, I have been feeling that I needed to begin sharing this knowledge to those who have an interest in learning how to play an instrument!

Learning to play the guitar or any instrument at a very high level can take years. There are no easy ways to master this instrument. You must practice hard to become a great player. Be patient and don’t get frustrated. Learning to play an instrument can be a long process. If you stay patient and practice you will improve eventually even if it feels like you aren’t. Always remember this, “The slower you go, the faster you will get there.”

I am presently teach at Haggerty’s Musicworks (Downtown - 514 Saint Joseph St) on Tuesday’s, Wednesday & Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

My rate is $75.00 for 4 – 30 min sessions!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Dr. G. W. Sandy Schaefer is currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Music Business at Chadron State College formerly at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, California State University, and Arizona State University. Dr. Schaefer has performed as a classical percussionist and a jazz musician. He was Principal Percussionist of the Fresno Philharmonic, the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra, the Green Lake Festival Orchestra, and a member of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra. As a jazz musician he has performed in all styles, Dixieland, swing, bop, cool, and hard bop. As a show percussionist/drummer Dr. Schaefer has performed with Henry Mancini, Milton Berle, the Temptations, Suzzane Sommers, Ben Vareen, the Drifters, the Coasters, Cleo Laine, the Lenon Sisters, Melissa Manchester, Roger Williams, Charro, and Bobby Vinton, as well as Ice Capades, and the Ebony Fashion Show.

Dr. Schaefer came to Chadron State in 1999 to revitalize their Commercial Music degree program. Schaefer said, "many high school age musicians believe that there are only two choices in music: public school teaching, and starving as a professional musician. That is not the case; there are many careers in the music business that offer steady incomes to musicians such as jobs with record labels, artist managers, publishing companies, print publishing companies, and equipment manufacturers." I hope to offer student musicians an opportunity to earn a living doing the thing the love, that is making music.

Hey guys, my name is Andy Young, I'm originally from Spearfish, SD but spent the last 6 years living in Nebraska. My primary instrument is guitar but have never been scared to pick up another instrument when duty calls.

In 2010 I received my Bachelors degree in Commercial Music Business from Chadron State College and since then I have been in a touring rock band playing roughly 120 dates a year in ten different states across the midwest. During and after College I worked with a number of students and am excited to now be teaching guitar here in Rapid City.

My roots are in Rock, Jazz and Blues but I love playing all different styles from Country to Motown to Top 40 to Finger-style. I love playing music and hope to help all my students love it too.
