Lessons

All of our teachers are professional instructors, many of whom have taught for years. Our teachers are well established with good reputations and we have teachers available for guitar, bass, drums/percussion, piano, brass, woodwinds and more. We are very careful as to who we select to teach at our stores, and we want you to know that we carefully examine the qualifications of all our teachers.

Learn To RAWK!How our lesson program works:

Although our teachers are not employed by Haggertys Musicworks, we allow them access to our studios where they can freely give private lessons. Because they are separate entities our stores do not keep track of payment or scheduling information for our teachers.

To get set up for lessons we'll do everything we can to match you up with the right teacher, but please be aware that most of our teachers are extremely busy and you may have to be placed on a waiting list.

To get started, browse our list of teachers by making a selection to your left. You can select the instrument and store location that you are interested in, and the appropriate teachers will display on this page.

If you have any questions, or need help finding a teacher, just feel free to Contact Us and we'll get you on our teachers waiting list.

A teacher will get back in touch with you when they have an opening in their schedule.

Guitar, Mandolin & Ukelele

Greetings…

I have been playing the guitar since 1978! I also began my musical career around that same time… going full time in 1994.

I have years of experience to share and over the last few years, I have been feeling that I needed to begin sharing this knowledge to those who have an interest in learning how to play an instrument!

Learning to play the guitar or any instrument at a very high level can take years. There are no easy ways to master this instrument. You must practice hard to become a great player. Be patient and don’t get frustrated. Learning to play an instrument can be a long process. If you stay patient and practice you will improve eventually even if it feels like you aren’t. Always remember this, “The slower you go, the faster you will get there.”

I am presently teach at Haggerty’s Musicworks on Tuesday’s, Wednesday & Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

My rate is $75.00 for 4 – 30 min sessions!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Dr. G. W. Sandy Schaefer is currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Music Business at Chadron State College formerly at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, California State University, and Arizona State University. Dr. Schaefer has performed as a classical percussionist and a jazz musician. He was Principal Percussionist of the Fresno Philharmonic, the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra, the Green Lake Festival Orchestra, and a member of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra. As a jazz musician he has performed in all styles, Dixieland, swing, bop, cool, and hard bop. As a show percussionist/drummer Dr. Schaefer has performed with Henry Mancini, Milton Berle, the Temptations, Suzzane Sommers, Ben Vareen, the Drifters, the Coasters, Cleo Laine, the Lenon Sisters, Melissa Manchester, Roger Williams, Charro, and Bobby Vinton, as well as Ice Capades, and the Ebony Fashion Show.

Dr. Schaefer came to Chadron State in 1999 to revitalize their Commercial Music degree program. Schaefer said, "many high school age musicians believe that there are only two choices in music: public school teaching, and starving as a professional musician. That is not the case; there are many careers in the music business that offer steady incomes to musicians such as jobs with record labels, artist managers, publishing companies, print publishing companies, and equipment manufacturers." I hope to offer student musicians an opportunity to earn a living doing the thing the love, that is making music.

I can teach you banjo! Playing the banjo will be one of the best things you’ve ever done in your life. You can learn many styles of playing the banjo; however, it will be best to start where your interests lie. Many people have not been introduced to the many styles of playing, however, know they love the sound of the banjo and want to get started. A good teacher will find out what your interests are first and what you know so far. A good teacher will teach you more than just songs and licks. I recommend lessons in person, although learning through a book or with On-line lessons are very helpful. There are some things that are not taught in any book, some which cannot be taught except in person.

I love teaching and do so mostly in the 3-finger style and clawhammer (although recently had some fun doing some Avett Brothers tunes). I also play some classical and melodic. I have taught mostly bluegrass and Old Time, and incorporate music theory so that you can play any style you want. I only include theory to the extent a student is ready for it. Practice is the only thing that will advance you as a player. There’s no right or wrong way to learn the banjo, just better ways to help the learning curve be shorter.

Please feel free to contact me and we can discuss where your interests lie with the banjo and more details on lessons. If you prefer Skype lessons, we can work that way as well.

I have taught people from different areas of the country who come to visit the beautiful Black Hills. If you would like to take a few lessons while your visiting the area, this can be arranged. The world needs more banjo players, and I can teach you banjo!

I've had students come to me from other teachers saying they were disappointed they had only learned a couples songs and rolls after a year. Other students who've told me that they learned more in a short period of time with me than 2 years with another teacher. All teachers have a different way they work and attitude towards teaching. I want to give the best learning experience and as much encouragement as possible. Banjo is the only instrument I teach. I sing as well and can incorporate this into teaching. Don't be afraid to ask questions when searching for a good teacher.

What instruments do you teach?

Acoustic & Electric Guitar

A bit about me:

I have been playing guitar for the last 23 years. It all started with a little classical acoustic and an old song book that my mom gave me. I used to sit in my room for hours imagining I was a rock star, it was quite the sight! I have done a little bit of everything over the years from playing in bands, at church, in the studio, to teaching all ages. Teaching is where my passion lies! There is nothing more satisfying than passing on the knowledge to someone new and to see the excitement in their eyes. I love beginners but I can teach all levels. I like to keep the atmosphere fun and engaging so text, call, or email me. Lets do this!

My rate is $75.00 for 4 – 30 min sessions
