Mark began studying electric bass at the age of 14. After specializing in classical upright bass under the instruction of Erik Anderson, Mark began playing professionally at the age of 18 with the Bismarck Symphony in North Dakota while earning his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Bass Performance through Minot State University. In the next stage of his education, Mark completed his Master of Music (Mmus) degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, studying primarily under John Van Lierop as well as with Tom Martin, former principal bassist of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Mark has recently performed with such symphonies as the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra, Minot Symphony Orchestra, the Bismarck/Mandan Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Symphony Orchestra, the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra, and the Tualatin Valley Symphony. He was most recently a tutti member ofthe Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra before moving to Rapid City, SD where heperforms regularly with alternative rock and jazz groups.
Mark has been formally teaching music lessons since 2011. He has directed several masterclasses with high school orchestra string sections and was also recently hired by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for the duration of his studies to teach bass lessons to beginning students.
